Summary: A simple guide on ripping and digitizing DVD films so that you can upload DVDs to Dropbox for viewing anywhere.

Dropbox is a mobile document and media storage tool that allows you to sync your files including movies and videos online for backup. If you want to take along bundles of DVDs when going out, it's great to upload DVDs to Dropbox for viewing anywhere. If you're looking for easy an easy way to get your movies off DVD into Dropbox, just read on.

As we all know, Dropbox doesn't support DVD format. In order to add your favorite DVD movies to Dropbox for streaming and playback on your iPhone, iPad, Google Nexus..., you may have to rip and convert DVD to Dropbox supported video formats like MP4, MOV and other formats.

To finish the task, a DVD Ripping software is essential. There are many programs out there that allow you to make copies of your DVDs and let you watch them the way you want to view them. The best program I can recommend for ripping DVD to Dropbox is Brorsoft DVD Ripper. This program can rip any encrypted DVD and convert DVD to MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, etc popular formats. For the video size limit of Dropbox site, the built-in editor also allows you to extract DVD clips with the very part you want. Or, you can just choose to rip certain chapters of a DVD as you like.

Note that the product tutorial below uses DVD Ripper for Windows screenshots to show you how to get the work easily done. The way to rip DVD to Dropbox videos on Mac OS X (including Mavericks and Yosemite) is the same. Please just make sure you've downloaded the right version.

Step 1. Import DVD movies

Launch the program and click Load DVD to add DVD folders, ISO files or IFO files. All added files will be displayed on the left item bar and you can preview them in the right Preview window as the picture below shows.

Step 2. Specify output format

As has been stated above, Dropbox supports MP4, etc video files. So you can just select "Common Video" > "H.264 High Profile Video(*.mp4)" as the output video format. If you want to stream DVD via Dropbox to your portable devices, there are many optimized presets for iPad, iPhone or Android depending on your device.

Step 3. Trim/Edit DVD files

Since Dropbox has limitations about the uploading video size(If you only have the free account, you only have 2 GB of space), please pay attention to the video size when ripping DVD movies for Dropbox. Here we should highlight the trim function on this software. Just click "Edit" to trim the DVD videos to get the very part you want. Besides trimming, cropping, adding watermark, adjusting special effect, are well supported as well.

Step 4. Start converting DVD to Dropbox

When all these settings are ready, you can click the "Convert" button to begin the DVD to Dropbox conversion. When the ripping is done, you can click on "Open" button to locate the ripped videos.

Now you can easily upload the converted DVD movies to Dropbox folder for viewing anywhere on any device. Enjoy.
