BOULDER, Colorado | Tue Dec 21, 2010 11:20am EST

(Reuters) - A painful experience trying to find a few seconds of footage in a 45-minute video inspired John Bliss to create his own online video-tagging tool.

Last year, the Boulder-based programer launched BlipSnips, a Web application that lets users bookmark specific moments in a video and make comments that can be shared across a host of social networking sites and smartphones.

"This product is inspiring a new way to communicate with video," said Bliss, 52, the co-founder and CEO of BlipSnips ( Bliss came up with the concept after a friend emailed him a long video of a cycling race during which Bliss crashed and urged him to check it out. Scrolling back and forth through the video to find the spot was so time consuming, Bliss felt there had to be a better way.
